The Yellowchair Performance Experience

Welcome

Welcome to www.t-y-p-e.net the official site of The Yellowchair Performance Experience (TYPE) and its creator, Hugh Allison.
TYPE was set up in 2003 to give new talent their first chance to perform on the London Fringe. Originally “talent” referred to actors, but recently it has expanded to include writers, directors and designers.

Writing

After leaving Rose Bruford College in 2003, Hugh Allison wrote and directed TaJ based on his experiences there. Hugh created TYPE to produce this show, which had a two week run Upstairs at The Gatehouse in August 2003.
For information, reviews, exerts and pictures of TaJ, please click here.
Hugh’s other writings include The Source of All The Evil and Appropriate Attire (both directed by Hugh and performed at the Cockpit Theatre, on “Theatre In The Pound” nights), Nelson’s Lions, Pink and Worship
Hugh is currently penning a piece about old age pensioners who play noughts and crosses in four dimensions.

Directing

For TYPE, Hugh has also directed Pretty Boy at the White Bear Theatre, Rosalind and The Bear at the Rosemary Branch Theatre and Gospel at The Etcetera Theatre.
Outside of TYPE, Hugh has also directed KissCumKiss for Missfit Productions at Baron’s Court, Alma Pater for Deckchair Productions at the Pleasance Theatre,  Eclipsed and Life Support for First Draft Theatre at various venues and What Andrew Heard for Leisure Isle Productions, at the Tabard Theatre.
Hugh’s experience as an Assistant Director includes I Just Broke Up at the White Bear, Sex Death and a Baked Swan at The Rosemary Branch, Kiss Me Kate at The Beacon and MYPN Through My Eyes at The Space.

Acting & Filming

Although writing is Hugh’s main priority, followed by directing, Hugh acts on occasion as he believes it gives him more empathy when directing actors, or writing for them.  For a list of his roles to date, please click here
Hugh is also trying to teach himself about making film, and has worked as First AD on The Highway Code, The Human Factory and Dawn of The Zombies.  He was a production assistant on 80s Movie and The Cult.
